GENERAL NURSING AND MIDWIFERY

GNM stands for General Nursing and Midwifery. It is a 3½ years long Diploma program. Academic program is 3 years long and 6 months are dedicated towards internship. GNM programme is meant to prepare general nurses who can efficiently perform as members of the health team and capable of dealing the competencies in both the hospitals and other such organizations.

OBJECTIVES

GNM Nursing programmes is designed to prepare the students to:
 
  • Assess the nursing need of clients from birth to death.
  • Plan and carry out appropriate action to meet nursing needs.
  • Apply problem solving techniques in nursing practice.
  • Apply knowledge from the humanities, biological and behavioral sciences in functioning as a nurse.
  • Demonstrate use of ethical values in their personal and professional life.
  • Recognize the need for continuing education for professional development.
  • Demonstrate basic skills in teaching patients and giving nursing care to them.
  • Demonstrate interest in continued learning for personal and professional advancement.

 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR GNM NURSING

1. Minimum and Maximum age for admission will be 17 and 35 years. There is no age bar for ANM/LHV
 
2. Minimum education:
  • 10+2 class passed preferably Science (PCB) & English with aggregate of 40% marks.
  • 10+2 in Arts (Mathematics, Biotechnology, Economics, Political Science, History, Geography, Business Studies, Accountancy, Home Science, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy) and English Core/English Elective or Health care Science - Vocational stream ONLY, passing out from recognized Board under AISSCE/CBSE/ICSE/SSCE/HSCE or other equivalent Board with 40% marks.
  • 10+2 vocational ANM under CBSE Board or other equivalent board with 40% marks.

 3. Registered as ANM with State Nursing Registration Council.

4. Student shall be medically fit.

5. Students qualified in 10+2 Arts or Science examination or Health care Science - Vocational stream ONLY conducted by National Institute of Open School with 40% marks.

6. Student shall be admitted once in a year.

 
 

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

All eligible candidates are required to appear for the written test.
Candidates who are found eligible on preliminary scrutiny of application and other documents will be called for an Written Admission Test to be held at the Rahman Institute of Nursing and Paramedical Sciences, Radhanagar, Guwahati-23. It has three common sections that are to be attempted by the candidates. These are:
a) General Knowledge
b) English
c) Science
Entrance examination questions will be from the XII standard syllabus and General Knowledge questions will be MCQ type. No Negative Marking. Duration will be 2 hours. There is no provision for re-examination or re-evaluation.
